Cardboard box craft
If you have empty cardboxes on hand and a bit of imagination, you could create almost anything from a playhouse or puppet theatre to a rocket or car. Help your child to transform a cardboard box of any size by building and painting it. You can even add on other cardboard elements like the inside of a kitchen roll for a chimney, or paper plates for wheels. Just let your child’s imgaination run riot.

Painting activity
Turn your home into a art gallery by hanging your kid’s masterpiece on the walls. Get kids to stick some masking tape onto a piece of paper, either in the form of a design or their name, then let your little one paint over the paper. Once dry, remove the masking tape to reveal a beautiful piece of work. You can find material at Art Central located in Boutik Mall or Canvas Art Store in Abu Dhabi Mall.

Baking and cooking
Get the kids in the kitchen preparing lunch, dinner or even baking some fresh bread or cookies. Build a volcano
Children interested in science will love this easy activity. Take a plastic bottle and mould clay around it to the shape of a volcano before sticking it onto a roasting tray. Pour three to four tablespoons of baking soda and a few drops of dish soap into the bottle using a funnel. In a measuring jug, combine half a cup of vinegar and four drops of food colouring. Pour the vinegar mixture into the bottle and watch that volcano explode.

Indoor hopscotch
For a more playful activity, cut out multiple copies of big shapes and stick them to the floor in rows. Call out the instructions to get your child to move from one shape to another – hop to a yellow star or jump two shapes to the right.

This Japanese art form can keep the family busy building all sorts of creations. All you need is some paper and simple instructions, which can easily be found online. Why not try this easy-to-make origami fish to start. If all else fails, make a simple paper plane and challenge your little one to see how far it can fly.
