Family mindfulness sessions to roll out this summer

Lockdown has for most of us been about connecting with family via zoom. These mindfulness sessions aim to bring your family even closer through deeper connections. Here’s how:

Abu Dhabi mindfulness sessions

Move, breathe, focus, create and meditate and build a family practice to keep and expand is the key message of Abu Dhabi’s Magic Mindfulness session, run by  mentor Nicola Wakeling, a British qualified teacher, trained in Mindfulness.

Sign up for these deep, meaningful sessions this summer and you’ll create a deeper meaning to family relationships through fun activties.

The sessions, which originate in the UK, provide the tools and techniques to reduce anxiety, stress, worries and improve self esteem, focus, resilience, emotional literacy and happiness.

Nicola’s goal is to prepare children with the tools to support their own mental health through life.

A family affair

Parents are also included in the sessions which she says “not only increases the effectiveness of mindfulness but offers opportunities for connection, which is a human need that is needed now more than ever.”

Each week has a unique theme which is used to tie in each of the five mini “spells” of the session; Move, Breathe, Focus, Create and Meditate.

The session lasts for one hour in which you will learn lots of small techniques to pick and mix from, the ones you like may become a regular part of your own home practice and serve to support your mental wellbeing through all of life’s challenges.

Once the sessions are booked, a resource pack is sent to your door which supports you through the Zoom session.

This will include a beautiful breathing card, affirmation, mindful themed colouring pictures, the meditation script from the class and the craft materials needed for our Create spell.

You’ll get to make breathing wands, dragon eggs, calming jars and more!

Families are encouraged to create a comfortable space for the session. Somewhere to sit or lie down, perhaps gather cushions, blankets, eye masks and soft toys to cuddle.

Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh recommends having this space set up permanently in the home, he calls it a breathing room. Where in your home is a space to just be?

Nicola Wakeling, owner of Mindful Magic UAE said:

“With social distancing set to continue, mental health is a real concern. I want to be able to reach as many families as possible to share the gift of Mindful Magic.

“Zoom gives us a wider reach, meaning that we can also invite our friends and extended family to join us in these sessions or share the skills together, long after.

“The sessions are fun and engaging. Aimed at children aged five to nine to do alongside their parents, but easily adapted and enjoyed by older and younger siblings or done independently.”

Mindfulness Abu Dhabi

Classes cost AED 120 each but to get the best results the entire eight-week course is recommended to develop a wider collection of tools.

Book the entire eight-week course and you’ll pay less, at a todatl of AED 800.

Classes start 8th July but spaces are limited to just 10 families in order to keep the space intimate.
