Abu Dhabi wildlife popluation surges, home to world’s largest number of dolphins

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi has been busy studying wildlife both on land and sea, and its half-year report shows how animal life is thriving across the emirate.

The Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) has released its half-year report, which shows a growth in Abu Dhabi’s animal kingdom.

The report revealed that swimming in the sea of Abu Dhabi is the largest population of Indian Ocean humpback dolphins in the world, along with 1,800 Indo-Pacific bottlenose dolphins and 50 endangered finless porpoises.

Seven new species of invertebrates and two new plant species have also been discovered.

The emirate’s flamingo population has increased by 22 percent with 872 chicks born already this year.

Turtles have also featured in the report with a total of 52 nesting sites for Hawksbill spotted along Abu Dhabi shores.
