The UAE has declared three days of mourning following the demise of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah, Emir of Kuwait, at the age of 91 on Tuesday.
“With great sadness and sorrow, we mourn the death of the late Sheikh Sabah, Emir of the State of Kuwait,” the state news agency Kuna reported.
As the news of his death broke, UAE leaders paid tribute to His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah.
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, the Emir of Abu Dhabi, the Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces and the chairman of the Supreme Petroleum Council, declared a three-day mourning period in honour of the Kuwait Emir.
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, and Ruler of the Emirate of Dubai, said His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Sabah was a compassionate ruler and the heart of the Arabian Gulf.
Flags shall fly at half-mast at all official departments in the country, and at embassies of the UAE abroad during the mourning period.
