The UAE will now administer a booster shot of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine to ensure that the vaccine provides high efficacy against the virus.
The shot will be given out six months after receiving the second dose of the vaccine.
Citizens and residents that have crossed the six months gap can receive it although elderly people, as well as individuals with chronic illnesses, will be prioritised to receive the booster shot first.
The vaccine was approved by the UAE in December and the majority of individuals will need to receive the additional shots from July onwards.
The third dose will provide a boost in immunity levels and will help produce more antibodies to fight the virus.
